Started with Combo Breakerz. Thinking back, I liked doing those even when the art wasn't that great just because I was having fun with it. I liked using original characters and I always wanted to do a gaming comic. But I figured out that when it comes to gaming comics, originality is hard to come by. And I just don't have the kind of mind that can come up with a joke a million other people haven't made already. So I pulled the plug on it.
Retrospect. Autobiographical comic. But it quickly turned into a "here's some crap I threw together so I could make the update in time." I wanted to do a comic that would be more personal, but even I'm growing sick of drawing myself too often. And since nothing really exciting happens to me, I don't have any good stories to share. So I eventually started making comics that made no sense at all. And not to mention, it hasn't been too popular.
After Christmas, I took what I thought would be an unexpected break, but it's turned into a hiatus. Which doesn't matter, cuz nobody notices anyways. And I started thinking about the comic. I haven't been having fun with it. I thought about just continuing it, but I just didn't have any interest. Then I started thinking about Combo Breakerz and how much fun I had doing it, and even considered bringing it back. But then I remembered the troubles I had writing gaming comics.
Over the past few weeks, I've gained an interest in newspaper styled comics. Garfield, foxtrot, calvin and hobbes. Things like that. Prolly started after I found sheldoncomics.com, a webcomic done in the style of a traditional newspaper comic, and even makes money as a professional webcomic. Newspaper comics were the original way a cartoonist made money by drawing and I've gained a new respect for them. And the more I thought about it, the more I thought how much easier it would be.
First of all, keeping updates would be easier. A big problem I have is that school is constantly keeping me busy. And for webcomics, I keep wanting to put together full-page comics complete with color and backgrounds (even crappy ones) and everything. This doesn't make keeping updates easy. But by doing it in a strip format, black and white, with maybe a color-comic every now and then, I'd be able to get a comic done much faster, and maybe, get to weekly updates again.
I don't wanna be one of those artists who has a million webcomics that they never update. But with 2 under my belt, I'm on my way to becoming one. It'll prolly be a while until I get this new comic started as I want it to be perfect. I don't wanna be 4 comics in, and regret a decision I made about something. I've got some character ideas already, but I'll post some art once I've made some (mostly) final decisions. Also, it might take me a while to get used to writing shorter scripts to fit in a just a few panels.
I won't share too many ideas I've had as I'm not completely sure and nothing's final yet, but I'd like to know what you think about this.
If you read all of that, thanks. Also sorry I haven't been so active lately. I've just been busy and got in the habit of not commenting. So once again, thanks if you read and comment on this.
